Mechanical Process Engineer Plastics and Rubber Technology, Emphasis: Moulding

Information about the training

Training Duration:
3 years

School Education:
Secondary School, Vocational School, Middle School

Fields of Activity:
Mechanical Process Engineers in plastics and rubber technologies are integrated into the entire production process of a plastic part. In the workshops or factories with the help of machines and facilities they produce all types of plastic and rubber products such as pipes, sections, foil, components and toys. In order to do this they process raw materials such as thermoplastics (materials which soften again with every heating), duroplastics (materials which do not soften again when they are heated), or elastomers (materials which possess elastic properties at room temperature).
For the manufacture of the products, the mechanical process engineers initially prepare the rough dimensions of the plastic and the rubber and set up the machines and equipment depending on the product to be produced or they adapt them. Depending on the product the processing of the plastic or rubber takes place using a different procedure such as injection moulding, calendering (mechanical moulding of the raw material between two rollers) or extrusion of the raw material (production through pre-moulded shapes). They operate and monitor the production equipment during the production process. They measure and control the relevant values and settings and secure the feeding in of the materials. They localise disruptions and undertake smaller repair and maintenance tasks. Finally they control the products for errors and for their thermal, chemical and mechanical capacities. During the production process they observe the protection of the environment and are responsible for the safety in the workplace.

Training Content:
- Production and processing of different semi-finished and finished products made of plastic or rubber in industrial production.
- Preparation of raw materials according to a formula provided.
- Installation of tools and machines, setting up of process data. Commissioning of machines, equipment and facilities.
- Controlling, regulating and monitoring the production, quality control.

Vocational College:
Full-time study

Intermediate Examination:
At the end of the 3rd training half-year, the theoretical knowledge is tested through programmed tasks and the practical skills are tested through the autonomous production of a component within a given time limit.

Final Examination: :
Written knowledge test in the studied subjects and a practical skills examination in front of an examination committee of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce in a neutral location.

Internal Company Training Offer:
Wide range of further training course for trainees and employees
